How long can you wear contact lenses?
Most contact lenses can be worn for 14-16 hours without any issues. Just make sure you take them out at the end of the day. No matter how long your contacts are built to last, you shouldn’t ever wear them overnight.
Stick to the 16-hour max limit and you should be fine.
Of course, if you experience any irritation or discomfort you should take them out.
If you have generally drier eyes, you may need to take your contacts out earlier. Additionally, if it’s your first time trying contacts, you might want to phase your way in. Give your eyes a chance to adapt before leaving them in for extended periods.
Different contacts have different rules
Did you know that we stock a variety of different coloured contact lenses? How long you can wear your contact lenses depends on the type of lenses you have.
At Mesmereyez, we have 1-day, 1-month, 3-month, and 1-year contacts.
This length of time does not mean you can just leave your contacts in for a year without taking them out. The 16-hour max rule still applies.
With proper contact lens care, you can use your lenses for up to a year.
Of course, if you have any irritation or you damage your lenses, this will reduce how long you should wear your lenses for. If you have any concerns, you can contact us or talk to your local eye-care professional.
How to look after your contact lenses
How long you can wear your contact lenses is very dependant on how well you look after them. If you want your lenses to last the whole month, three months, or year, you need to care for them properly.
The first thing you need to do is to make sure you have the right accessories. This includes a lens case and solution for proper hygienic storage.
It is important to always add fresh solution to your case each night instead of topping up what's there. Otherwise, you’re adding to all of yesterday’s germs. Make sure you wash your hands before handling your contacts and rinse your case after you use it. Leave it to air dry and then you’re ready to repeat.
Can you wear night contacts?
There are specially designed contacts that you can wear overnight — but these are prescription lenses for people with vision issues. We’re all about the fun here and we don’t recommend wearing our coloured contacts overnight.
